Tension has gripped the Shadipur neighbourhood of Delhi after a Hindu activist succumbed to his injuries a couple of days after his scuffle with a Muslim group. Seeing the deteriorating atmosphere in the area, RAF has been deployed.
On the intervening night of 12 and 13 October, three Muslim men beat up Nitesh. He died last night. The CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced.
The people of the area are agitated over the murder. Nitesh's family staged a protest today by placing his body on the road near Patel Nagar metro station and refused to perform his last rites. However, after persuasion by the police, the family removed the body from the middle of the road and went for the last rites. They demanded strict action against the suspects.
Three Muslim men have been accused of murder. They have been identified as Ufiza, Adnan and Abbas. Police have started investigating the matter. No arrest has been made so far.
The incident happened on 12 October. The family of the deceased says that the accused abused Nitesh and his friends over some matter, which led to a scuffle between the two groups. The Muslim men beat up Nitesh and his two friends Alok and Monty, injuring them.
Nitesh was admitted to a hospital but he died during treatment on the night of 15 October.
After the death of Nitesh, the relatives protested by placing the dead body near Patel Nagar metro station and refused to perform his last rites. However, after persuading the police, the family removed the body from the middle of the road and got ready for the last rites.
According to the family, Nitesh was associated with Bajrang Dal and the RSS, but the police have denied any communal angle in the case. Police say that the suspects will be arrested soon. DCP Shweta Chauhan said there were criminal cases registered against the Hindu activist too.
On 30 September, another Muslim group had stabbed a Hindu youth to death on a road in Delhi's Sundar Nagri. The victim was identified as Manish (25). The police arrested Alam, Bilal and Faizan on the basis of suspicion. CCTV footage of the incident also surfaced. Manish's phone had been snatched a year ago.
Qasim and Mohsin had stabbed Manish in the throat and stomach. The police arrested both. The family members of Qasim and Mohsin were constantly pressuring Manish to withdraw the case.
