Woman who abused Gen Rawat released on bail

Many demanded that Haji Public School in Doda, where the Muslim woman was the director and teacher, be shut down for her remark calling Gen Rawat a war criminal

The Muslim woman who had called then Chief of Staff (VDS) late Gen a “war criminal” on social media has been released on bail. Sabbah Haji, the former Director of Haji Public School, had made the comments soon after Rawat’s death in a helicopter crash in Tamil Nadu on 8 December.

Sabbah’s posts were widely shared and people demanded legal action against her. Taking cognisance of the matter, the Executive magistrate of Doda in Jammu and Kashmir had started a probe against her.

“Bail was granted to her on condition that she will remain present at the women’s police station in Doda from 10 AM to 2 PM for three days, 14 to 17 December, and shall appear before the Executive Magistrate Doda on 17 December”, an official said.

Many had demanded that Haji Public School in Doda, where the Muslim woman was the director and teacher, be shut down. The school’s management then issued a public note to clarify, “Sabbah’s remark about Rawat was not the view of the institution.”

“The Haji Public School management would like to clarify that a recent distasteful media post during the rounds has nothing to do with the school and that the said person has acted in her individual capacity after her tenure with the school ended. Ms Sabbah Haji is not associated with Haji Public School in any official capacity,” the school clarified publicly on its official social media page.
