New Delhi: The crime branch of Delhi Police, which is investigating the alleged murder of the late Congress leader ND Tiwari’s son Rohit Shekhar, has said that Shekhar’s wife, Apurva Tiwari, and a domestic help, who works as a driver, are the prime suspects for the case.
ND Tiwari’s son Rohit Shekhar was found dead on 16 April under mysterious circumstances. He was brought to the Max Hospital in Saket at around 5 PM on Tuesday in an ambulance where doctors declared him dead.
A crime branch team reached Shekhar’s residence in Defence Colony at 7.30 AM on Sunday. They interrogated Shekhar’s wife and Akhilesh, the driver, separately for three hours.
“When their statements were recorded, the two failed to give satisfactory answers to certain questions. They are our prime suspects as they could have hatched the entire conspiracy,” a police officer said.
“When the incident happened on 16 April, only Apurva and Akhilesh were present on the first floor. The pieces of evidence indicate that Shekhar was murdered for his property,” the officer added.
Rohit’s mother, Ujjwala, alleged that his wife had got into an argument with Rohit after he and Siddharth decided to give a part of their property to one Kartik, the son of their cousin Rajeev who used to work for Tiwari when he was the UP and Uttarakhand CM.
“Apurva wanted the property at Tilak Lane since it is at a prime location in Lutyens’ Delhi and near Supreme Court, where she worked. She had accused Rohit of having an affair with Rajeev’s wife on the second day of their wedding and got into frequent arguments over this,” Ujjwala said.
Five years ago, the Delhi High Court had declared veteran Congress leader ND Tiwari as the biological father of Rohit Shekhar. The judge had injuncted Tiwari from denying in public that Shekhar is his natural born son.
