Kolkata: Kailash Vijayvargiya, in charge of BJP’s West Bengal affairs, has claimed that the Mamata government will not be able to complete its term in the State. Vijayvargiya has made this statement at a time of heightened strife between the Trinamool workers and BJP cadre in the State.
The BJP announced two days ago it would send 10 lakh postcards to Mamata Banerjee with the slogan “Jai Sri Ram”. Reacting to it, the Trinamool has said that it will send 2 million postcards to Modi and Shah with “Jai Hind” and “Jai Bangla” slogans.
The Vijayvargiya interview
Vijayvargiya, in an interview with The Times of India, said there was deep dissatisfaction within the leaders inside the Trinamool and that they could leave the party anytime.
Many senior leaders of the Trinamool, Vijayvargiya said, are apprehensive that Mamata’s nephew Abhishek will succeed her soon. The party’s leaders find this situation uncomfortable. In such a situation, all the dissatisfied leaders can leave the party anytime.
Why ‘Jai Sri Ram’ gets Mamata’s goat
Vijayvargiya said about turning ‘Jai Sri Ram’ into a political slogan, “After our Lok Sabha election, when our workers were celebrating victory, they were attacked. Three BJP workers were killed.”
“Mamata Banerjee is frustrated and that is why she is taking ‘Jai Sri Ram’ slogan for abuse. How can you abuse anybody with a religious mantra? If they feel that, the people of the State should teach them a lesson,” Vijayvargiya said.
Banerjee accuses outsiders of spreading unrest in the State but, the BJP leader said Mamata had no problem with those who are actually outsiders. She has no problem with Rohingyas. Over 1.5 crore illegal Bangladeshi people are living here. The State government has even granted them citizenship. The government is protecting them. However, the local people now oppose this policy and the Trinamool will get the answer in the election.
Law and order
The BJP leader alleged the law and order situation in the State under the Mamata government was awful. Vijayvargiya said this issue would be the BJP’s focus in the party’s bid to come to power. Apart from this, “we also have to work on population imbalance”.
