The Haryana home minister has accused the Kejriwal government of Delhi of destroying their efforts to stop the spread of coronavirus. Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij advised Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to make arrangements for people working there to stay there so that the virus does not spread in Haryana.
Vij, in a letter to the Kejriwal government, urged the chief minister of the national capital to stop people of Delhi from coming to the state. He has alleged that cases of coronavirus disease (COVID) are increasing in Haryana due to Delhi.
Haryana has sealed its borders with all adjacent states, especially that with national capital Delhi. While Jhajjar, Gurugram, Faridabad and Palwal districts are seeing an increased deployment of police, the cops are questioning also entrants with valid documents.
Vij said, ‘We examined and treated 120 Tablighi Jamaat people, who had come to Haryana from New Delhi. Now we have found that many COVID-positive cases are directly related to Delhi.”
Citing the examples of Delhi Police personnel and New Delhi hospital and health workers, the Haryana minister said that it would be in the interest of both the states that the Delhi government made arrangements for its employees to stay in Delhi.
The minister said that even though Haryana has sealed the borders, people still enter the state as they have passes issued by the Delhi government and, as per the Ministry of Home Affairs guidelines, “we cannot bring the system into disrepute”. The Delhi government, Vij wrote, should exercise restraint in issuing passes.
Meanwhile, the number of infected people increased to 296 after nine new cases of COVID-19 infection were reported in Haryana. On Sunday, a woman police sub-inspector of Panipat district and three members of her family were confirmed to be infected with the coronavirus.
Health Minister Anil Vij said that 70 policemen attached to one police station have been separated after a woman sub-inspector was found infected with COVID-19 at the Samalkha police station in district Panipat.
Vij said that the SI’s brother, who works with Delhi Police, has been found infected with COVID-19. The minister said their parents had tested positive too.
Panipat reported four cases while two patients have emerged from Hisar and one from Sonepat.
Earlier in the day, two cases were reported from Faridabad.
Vij said that the Haryana government had appealed to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to make arrangements for the stay of the residents of Haryana working in the Delhi government. He said several patients of coronavirus had been exposed to COVID-19 in Delhi in NCR districts including Sonepat, Gurugram and Faridabad.
Daily movement of employees working in Delhi with their residences in Haryana may increase the risk of spread of COVID-19, Vij wrote in the letter.
