The ASI illuminated with the tricolour, among 100 monuments, 17 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including the Red Fort, Qutb Minar, Humayun Tomb, Tughlaqabad Fort, Purana Qila, Fatehpur Sikri Agra, Ramappa Temple, Hampi, Dholavira (Gujarat), ancient Leh Palace; Currency Building and Metcalf Hall in Kolkata; Khajuraho temples (MP) and Golconda Fort in Hyderabad.

In terms of absolute numbers, only India and China occupy the billion-doses club. And this won’t change as no other country has a population of similar size.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the landmark reached in a little over nine months’ time since the countrywide vaccination drive was launched on January 16 as a triumph of Indian science, enterprise and collective spirit of 130 crore.

This will be a tribute to health professionals, frontline workers, scientists, vaccine manufacturers and the citizens of the country who bravely fought the pandemic.

The illumination is part of the activities being planned around the milestone across the country.

Around 75 per cent of India’s all eligible adult population has been administered at least the first dose and around 31 per cent has received both doses of the vaccine.
