Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Thursday suspended the District Magistrates of Gonda and Fatehpur for non-performance, an official said. While Fatehpur District Magistrate Kumar Prashant has been shown the door for failure in the proper implementation of government schemes, JB Singh, the District Magistrate of Gonda, has been punished for his failure to control illegal mining.
“DM Fatehpur Prashant Kumar and DM Gonda JB Singh have been suspended by the chief minister after he took serious note of irregularities,” an official spokesman said here.
“In Fatehpur, irregularities were found in the wheat purchase. Fixing responsibility at senior level, the chief minister has ordered the suspension of the DM. On 31 May, during an inspection by the food department, no wheat purchase was found from 13 May till date and there was no reason mentioned for it,” he said.
Lodging of FIRs was ordered by the Food Commissioner yesterday against a number of officials of the department in Fatehpur for not distributing token to farmers for wheat purchase and affecting the process.
In Gonda, irregularities were found in the distribution of food grains and the DM’s supervision and control was found to be lax, due to which he was suspended, the spokesman said.
Besides the DM, district supply officer Rajiv Kumar and district food marketing officer Ajay Vikram Singh have also been suspended and orders have been issued to register FIR in the entire matter, the spokesman added.
Sources said that even as the Chief Minister has started a physical inspection of government schemes in various districts, he has also decided to tackle the problems in the bureaucracy head-on, more so because it has been almost 16 months since the new government assumed charge.
Recent drubbings in the bypolls in the State have also forced him to make changes, a close aide said, adding that more action will follow in the days to come.
Balkar Singh, another IAS officer who is under the shadow of many charges of irregularities, was on Tuesday removed as the Director of the Mining Department and posted as Director of Disabled Welfare, a post considered a dumping ground for bureaucrats who have run afoul of the powers that be.
