The Twitter verified the handle and added back its followers, the Army official said.
The official said it was unclear as to why the official account of the Army’s Srinagar-based headquarters was suspended.
“We contacted Twitter and the handle was verified and restored. Its followers have also been added back,” the official said.
The Chinar Corps, also known as 15 Corps, oversees anti-militancy operations on the Line of Control (LoC) and hinterland in the Kashmir valley.
“#ChinarCorps Twitter handle is fully functional & verified now. Thank you all for the constant support, encouragement & suggestions. #MissionPeaceKashmir #AwaamArmyConnect #TerrorismFreeKashmir @adgpi @NorthernComd_IA @Whiteknight_IA @easterncomd,” the handle put out in a tweet after it was restored and verified.
Twitter restored the handle within an hour of the suspension creating a stir. It has also added back the followers.
It is learnt that Twitter suspended the account of the Chinar Corps @ChinarcorpsIA by “mistake” while targeting 1.8 million accounts for fake news.
It is apprehended that Pakistan nowadays influences Twitter heavily. Topmost among Pakistan’s targets are Indian security forces’ handles that boast of thousands of followers. They were created to fight Pakistan military propaganda wing ISPR and terror sympathisers. The Pakistan Army, in turn, reports these Indian Army handles to Twitter, alleging that the latter are spreading fake news!
The Chinar Corps of the Indian Army is on the forefront, fighting Pakistan-sponsored terrorism. Kashmir and the area along the LoC are among its areas of operation. The handle is a source of authorised information about the Indian security forces’ operations in Kashmir.
The Indian Army had, a few years ago, asked all important corps to launch their respective social media handles to facilitate easier communication of information to the people.
Each of these handles focuses only on its own area of operations. They help dispel rumours and enemy propaganda.
