Trinamool Congress (AITC) turncoat Rajib Banerjee, who had joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of West Bengal Assembly polls, rejoined the Mamata Banerjee-led party on 31 October.
Claiming that he “made a mistake” by joining the BJP, Rajib Banerjee said, “I am thankful to Abhishek Banerjee and Mamata Banerjee for permitting me to rejoin.”
Hitting out at the BJP, Rajib Banerjee claimed that the party painted a “rosy picture”.
“Before joining [the BJP], there were various promises made on employment and agriculture, that didn’t happen,” Rajib Banerjee alleged.
He further claimed that the BJP’s agenda was to gain votes and religious politics. He said, “I too want agriculture [to grow] and employment for youth. I had told the central leadership, if they want industry [to develop], to reopen the Dunlop factory. But their only agenda was to gain votes.”
“Their main agenda was religious politics. It was too late, when I decided to leave,” Rajib Banerjee said.
After rejoining AITC, Rajib Banerjee said, “I had taken a decision which Mamata had stopped me from taking and Abhishek Banerjee too explained to me, but today I am ashamed. If I had stayed, I would have showed a better path forward.”
“Parivartan is coming,” Rajib Banerjee said, adding “I want to work for people.”
Rajib Banerjee said that he will urge people of Tripura to place their trust in Mamata Banerjee.
“I believe Mamata is not just the leader of Bengal, but of the rest of the country too,” the AITC leader said.
Referring to Abhishek Banerjee’s claim that his goal is Tripura, Rajib Banerjee said, “Our culture is alike. Development needs to reach Tripura, which was thought of two years ago. In coming days, Bengal’s devi Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee will be the tall leaders in every other state.”
He further added that he will urge people of Tripura to not trust Indian National Congress (INC) or CPM, but to put their faith in Mamata Banerjee.
“I will tell people of Tripura, don’t make a mistake. My trust was broken [by BJP], your trust will be broken. Place your faith in Mamata Banerjee and Abhishek Banerjee.”
Rajib Banerjee promised to undertake whatever work is delegated by party leadership to him and to work for the people.
“TMC will win every upcoming local body election,” Rajib Banerjee said after rejoining party on 31 October.
Meanwhile, Kalyan Banerjee questioned Trinamool Congress’s decision to re-induct Rajib Banerjee into party.
Calling Rajib Banerjee “corrupt”, AITC leader Kalyan Banerjee said, “I have to accept that the top leadership of the party has included Rajib Banerjee in the party, but Mamta Banerjee had said during a meeting in Domjur that Rajib Banerjee has three-four houses in Gariahat and his transaction is going on in Dubai. Only the party leadership will be able to tell why he was taken back despite this.”
“Abhishek Banerjee had said that by hurting the heart of any party worker, no faith-destroyer will be taken in the party,” Kalyan Banerjee said, adding that, “In order to stay in TMC, everyone has to obey top leadership of the party. Even I have to.”
However, he said,”But I don’t know why such a top to bottom corrupt person was included back in the party.”
