Test COVID-19 at home: Kit made by Bione in India

This made-in-India test kit will relieve government facilities that are these days examining thousands of suspected coronavirus carriers

You can now buy India’s first indigenously developed coronavirus testing kit. Genetic and microbiome testing firm Bione has made this product to relieve the stress on government facilities of screening patients with flu symptoms to confirm or rule out COVID-19 infection. On 3 April at the launch of the kit, Bione said this was a rapid COVID-19 at-home screening test kit. It displays accurate results within minutes, it added.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) approves of the kit. However, it will reach the market only after proper quality checks and assurance,

Bione’s worldwide CE and FDA approved partners have sourced this product. Stringent quality controls are still to be ensured. The USFDA approval is awaited too.

Once all the approvals are obtained, India will emerge in the field of medical kits a more reliable service provider than China that earned ignominy globally last weak when thousands of its kits sent to European countries proved faulty.

Once the company is through with the formalities, it has the capacity ti supply 20,000 kits per week. The firm wants to build its manufacturing facilities in the coming months to meet the demand, which is expected to be high.

“COVID-19 home screening test kit has emerged as a breakthrough product in such unprecedented times. By bringing down the result time, we are looking to make an impact and help India fight COVID-19,” Bione CEO Surendra Chikara said.

Mind you, do not presume that you have discharged your social responsibility or care for your family once you have tested yourself. If the kit says you are COVID-positive, go for another test by a certified laboratory. If the lab conforms the test result, you will have to be quarantined for a fortnight, during which doctors will treat you.

You can book the product at the company website bione.in. The screening kit is easy to operate, yielding results in minutes. The kit costs between Rs 2,000 and Rs 3,000. The price swing depends on demand and supply like products available in the US market where, unlike India, there is no concept of a maximum retail price.

The Bione CEO said, “We had been tracking the pandemic and pooled in a lot of time, resources and attention in our mission to develop a tool effective in curbing the outbreak. COVID-19 Home Screening test kit has emerged as a breakthrough product in such unprecedented times. By bringing down the result time, we are looking to make an impact and help India fight COVID-19. We strongly believe that the government’s support is pivotal in leading a revolution against coronavirus.”
