Desperate not to let anybody domiciled outside Kashmir enter, work and settle in the Valley, terrorists on Tuesday killed five non-Kashmiri labourers in Kulgam, Pulwama, Jammu and Kashmir. One more labourer hit by terrorists’ bullets has been admitted to the hospital in Anantnag in an injured condition.
Police reached the spot after the incident and are investigating the case. India Army’s 18th Battalion and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel reached the spot to cordon the area and conduct intensive searches.
All the workers killed are residents of Murshidabad of West Bengal.
Earlier on Tuesday, terrorists opened fire targeting CRPF personnel stationed near a school in Drabgam, Pulwama. According to the news agency ANI, the school had been designated as an examination centre where unidentified assailants fired six to seven rounds at the soldiers stationed at Drabgam. However, no one was reported injured in the attack.
The CRPF and the local police were on duty at the school when the incident occurred at around 3 PM. After the terrorists stopped firing indiscriminately, the security forces surrounded the entire area and launched an intensive search operation. The incident of terrorist firing has taken place at a day when a delegation of European MPs has arrived in the Valley to take stock of the situation here.
As in Maoist-infested Chhattisgarh, CRPF personnel are now increasingly coming under the attack of terrorists in Kashmir. As recently as on 26 October, six personnel of the force were injured in a grenade attack by terrorists.
Earlier in the day, The body of a terrorist who had killed two truck drivers in Jammu and Kashmir‘s Anantnag district had been recovered by the police. Jammu and Kashmir Police said the body had been identified. This happened on a day when 28 European Union (EU) parliamentarians are visiting the region. A truck driver killed by terrorists was identified as Narayan Dutt, a resident of Reasi.
