Srinagar: Umar Fayaz Parry, a doctor in the Indian Army in the rank of a lieutenant, has been found murdered in the Kashmir Valley (Hermain area of the Shopian district). He hailed from the neighbouring district of Kulgam. He was posted in Akhnoor. A bunch of terrorists abducted him from a wedding party Tuesday in the evening and dumped his body ridden with bullets this morning.
Pulwama, Shopian, Anantnag and Kulgam of south Kashmir have been witnessing increased incidents of terror attacks for the past few months. The terrorists are targeting soldiers and policemen even when they are off duty.
23-year old Lieutenant (Dr) Umar Fayaz Parry had joined the Army recently. He was attending the wedding of a cousin when he was abducted.
While Jammu & Kashmir Police has advised its personnel to avoid visiting their native places in south Kashmir, the Army has issued no such advisory or directive.
Last Thursday, towards the end of an anti-terror operation in the villages of Shopian, there was a sudden counter attack by terrorists in Kulgam that claimed the lives of 2 soldiers and a civilian. The retaliatory fire killed one terrorist and injured another. A grenade and some ammunition were found in the possession of the killed terrorist.
On Saturday, Hizbul Mujahideen’s militant Fayaz Ahmad Aishwar reportedly killed a cop Azhar Mehmood while the latter was regulating vehicular traffic following an accident. The terrorist, riding a car, opened fire on a police team which had gone to Mir Bazaar area to investigate a road accident. The police killed Fayaz Ahmad in retaliatory fire.
Ironically, even as more Kashmiris are dying in the hands of terrorists, the inhabitants of the area mourned the death of Fayaz Ahmad by turning up in huge numbers at his funeral and giving the dead militant gun salutes. Among Fayaz’s latest victims were 3 Kashmiri civilians.
