Ajay Devgn starrer Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior grossed nearly four times as much as Deepika’s Chhapaak on its release day (Friday). According to Box Office India report, Chhapaak started off slow with Rs 4.75 crore, while on the first day Tanhaji… earned a cool Rs 16 crore. Tanhaji… is the 100th film of Ajay Devgn’s career and since the release of the trailer, the audience had a positive attitude towards it.

Taran Adarsh explains why Tanhaji… did better

According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh’s tweet, Tanhaji… collected a collection of Rs 15.10 crore on the first day. He wrote in his tweet that after the afternoon, the collection saw a rapid increase. Due to positive mouth publicity, there can be a big jump in earnings on the second and third days.

Adarsh’s tweet says that Chhapaak earned Rs 4.77 crore on the first day. Adarsh ​​has written that for the respectable weekend collection, it is very important for the second and third-day earnings to rise.

Tanhaji… was released on a total of 4,540 screens, including 3,880 screens from India and 660 screens from overseas. The film has been released in 2D and 3D formats in Hindi and Marathi languages. At the same time, Chhapaak was released on a total of 2,160 screens, including India’s 1,700 and 460 overseas.

According to the Box Office India report, the film earned a good amount in the morning shows and trade experts were assuming that the evening collections could bounce. But this did not happen. This is the reason that the collection which should have reached around 6 crores, was reduced to 4.75 crores.

Directed by Meghna Gulzar, the film is inspired by the life of Delhi-based acid attack survivor Lakshmi Agarwal. It was getting a great response after the trailer release. A good start to the film was also expected. But on Tuesday (7 January), when Deepika suddenly stood up with students and leftist leaders protesting in JNU, many nationalist organisations including members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad began campaigning against her.

Campaigns against Chhapaak and Deepika on social media spelt doom for the film. Many have appealed to the potential audience to catch up with Tanhaji… at the expense of Chhapaak.
