Three more people have been arrested in connection with the crimes Tahir Hussain, the councillor suspended from the Aam Aadmi Party, is alleged to have committed during the Delhi riots. Delhi Police Crime Branch SIT has arrested these accomplices named Liaquat, Riyasat and Tariq Rizvi in Delhi riots case.
According to information received from the police, Liaquat and Riyasat were involved in the violence in Chand Bagh area of north-east Delhi.
Earlier, AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan tried to add a communal colour to the arrest of Hussain. Khan said, “He (Hussain) is being punished because he is a Muslim.”
“Perhaps the biggest crime in India today is to be Muslim. It is possible that in the coming days, police will try to accuse Tahir Hussain of rioting in Delhi,” Khan said.
Several pieces of evidence against Hussain have surfaced in the meantime. Items such as stones, petrol bombs, glass bottles and slingshots have been recovered from the roof of Hussain’s house.
Notably, except the house of Hussain, all houses in the neighbourhood in the vicinity were damaged in the riots.
The police have included the charges and the evidence in the case against Hussain.
Tahir Hussain is accused of killing IB security assistant Ankit Sharma. Ankit’s family has filed an FIR against the councillor in which he is accused of murder.
Also, a day after IB security assistant Ankit Sharma’s cadaver was recovered from the drain near Hussain’s house, the disrobed body of a woman was found in the same drain. A television news channel’s crew reached the basement of the AAP councillor where they found burnt undergarments of the victim.
