The investigation into the mysterious death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has drawn closer to the people who seem to have unleashed the gang of Rhea Chakraborty and family and shady friends like Sandeep Ssingh, Siddharth Pithani, Samuel Miranda, etc on the late actor. The name that surfaced in the probe on 1 September is that of Imtiaz Khatri whose emergence on the scene on an occasion when Sooraj Pancholi was threatening Rajput Sirf News had reported long ago.
Hours after Rajput’s former manager Shruti Modi claimed that Rhea Chakraborty used to manage the finances of the late Bollywood actor, Shruti’s lawyer made a sensational claim about the ‘drug conspiracy‘ in the case. The lawyer named Imtiaz Khan/Khatri, the son of an influential and politically connected builder in Mumbai.
Shruti Modi’s lawyer Ashok Rastogi told a private television channel, “As far as drugs are concerned, it’s a very common thing in the film industry. One of the TV actresses had committed suicide and her boyfriend was accused of supplying drugs. There are other cases like Mamata Kulkarni’s and others — so it’s a common factor.”
The lawyer said, “Even today, if you wander around Lokhandwala area, I am sure you will be in a position to get some person who is ready to deliver you these things. As far as supply is concerned, it is within the knowledge of police as well about how these things are supplied.”
Rastogi then then dropped a bomb: “All these drugs are supplied by the topmost person in the trade — Imtiaz Khatri. He is a big person and has influence not just in Bollywood but also in the ministries. He is really close with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP).”
Sirf News had published a video on 24 July where Imtiaz Khatri was seen pushing Rajput into a car following a meeting with Sooraj Pancholi.
The lawyer claimed further that two members of the Khatri family were involved in the irrigation scam too, and they had been arrested for the crime. They secured bail only after the NCP and the Indian National Congress (INC) helped the Shiv Sena form government in Maharashtra, Rohatgi said.
Ashok Rastogi’s sensational claim follows reports of drug use of Rhea Chakraborty that her WhatsApp conversations with those who allegedly supplied contraband substances to her revealed.
The NCB has lent credence to Rastogi’s allegation. The bureau said the two-drug peddlers it arrested had links with the film industry. The two arrested drug peddlers — Karan and Abbas — have named a few people who control the cartel that supplies drugs to Bollywood.
Sources said the NCB would further interrogate the two in Mumbai to get the names of bigger players in the racket.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s family had alleged he had been “poisoned” and “murdered”. “Rhea Chakraborty was giving poison to my son, Sushant from a long time, she is his murderer. The investigating agency must arrest her and her associates,” Rajput’s father KK Singh had said last month.
Chakraborty’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde has, however, said that his client did not consume narcotics and that Rhea was willing to undergo a blood test to prove it.
Earlier, the CBI grilled Rhea’s parents Indrajit and Sandhya Chakraborty at the DRDO Guest House while the agency has interrogated the starlet for 35 hours already. Today the police provided security at their residential complex after the Chakraborty family complained at the Santa Cruz Police Station that reporters were constantly disturbing them.
