The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on 27 September recorded statements of actors Deepika Padukone, Shraddha Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan in the drugs probe linked to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death and an alleged Bollywood-drugs nexus. It arrested Dharma Productions’ executive producer Kshitij Ravi Prasad. The agency has so far arrested at least 18 persons in these cases.
The NCB, which quizzed Bollywood actors Rakul Preet Singh, Deepika, her former manager Karishma Prakash, and fashion designer Simone Khambatta on 25 and 26 September in connection with the drugs case, has seized their mobile phones. Additionally, cell phones of Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Sushant’s former talent manager Jaya Saha and Deepika’s former manager Karishma Prakash were also seized over alleged ‘drugs chat’.
On the other hand, Sara Ali Khan’s name surfaced in the drugs probe after actress Rhea Chakraborty allegedly named her and said that she used to consume drugs along with her and Sushant. Sara also dated the late actor during the shoot of her first film Kedarnath. Shraddha Kapoor’s name was given by the caretaker of Sushant’s Lonavala Farmhouse, who claimed that Shraddha used to accompany the late actor to parties in the farmhouse named ‘Hang Out.’
Shraddha confessed that she attended a party hosted at Sushant’s Pawna guesthouse in 2019, where weed and alcohol were served.
However, the actress denied consuming any drugs. Shraddha’s name surfaced in the drug nexus after her drug chats with Jaya Saha (Sushant’s former talent manager) were recovered by the investigating team.
According to the NCB, the digital forensics of seized communication devices led to some workable information which was verified subsequently. NCB officials said that the actresses have been summoned after their names surfaced in WhatsApp chats accessed by the NCB and during the questioning of late Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik.
The NCB had earlier arrested actor Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik and some suspected drug peddlers. Sushant (34), an emerging Bollywood star, was found dead in his apartment in suburban Bandra on 14 June. Meanwhile, considering the media frenzy around the `A-lister’ Bollywood stars who are being questioned in the case, the Mumbai police on Saturday issued a warning that media should not engage in reckless chases of actors’ vehicles.
