Cricketer Suresh Raina was arrested by Mumbai Police early this morning. Police from Sahar raided Dragon Fly club near Mumbai airport in the morning of 22 December at 02:30 AM and found that the club had been flouting the restrictions imposed by the night curfew across Maharashtra. The cops immediately made some arrests.
Singer Guru Randhawa was present at the night club and rapper Badshah allegedly managed to escape the scene from the back gate.
Along with cricketer Suresh Raina, Sussanne Khan, Singer Guru Randhawa and others have been named in the FIR, sources said, adding that singer Badshah was present, but he left via a rear gate of the building during the raid. They have been released on the notice of CrPC 41(a)(1), sources added.
A senior official from Mumbai Police said that the raids had been conducted based on information that various night clubs were violating the restrictions and not adhering to the social distancing guidelines. The accused were later released on bail.
FIRs have been lodged under section 188 of IPC, Bombay police act and relevant sections of epidemic diseases act.
In total, action has been taken on 34 people, including hotel staff. Of the 34, 19 people had come in from Delhi and Punjab, sources said. The persons from outside Mumbai have returned to Delhi via a 7 am flight.
Suresh Raina, who retired from international cricket on 15 August 2020 this year, made headlines in the 13th season of the Indian Premier League. Raina went to the UAE for the IPL with the team of Chennai Super Kings, but after withdrawing some Corona positive cases in the team, he withdrew his name from the tournament.
Raina, citing personal reasons, said that he is withdrawing his name from IPL 2020. Earlier, just a few minutes after Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s retirement, Suresh Raina left international cricket at the age of 33.
Suresh Raina was out of the Indian team for a long time. He has not played any international matches since the ODI match played against England on 17 July 2018 in Leeds. He scored 768 runs in 18 Tests for the Indian team at an average of 26.48, including a century and seven half-centuries.
Raina has scored 5,615 runs in 226 ODIs at an average of 35.31 and in this format he has five centuries and 36 half-centuries. Raina has scored 1605 runs in 78 T20 matches with the help of a century and five half-centuries and an average of 29.16.
