President of Trinamool Congress Mamata Benerjee (also the Chief Minister of West Bengal) has congratulated members of the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad (TMCP), the students’ wing of the political party that was formed on 1 January 1998 after she led a faction out of the Indian National Congress. The students’ wing of the INC in the State is known as Chhatra Parishad and not the National Students’ Union of India.
Banerjee said on the occasion, “Today is the foundation day of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. To commemorate the occasion, student communities organise the largest rally of its kind in the country in Kolkata.
I am indeed proud of my student brothers and sisters. Students are the foundation of our tomorrow. They must work with full dedication and determination to serve their motherland. On this great day, I convey my heartiest greetings and best wishes to all my student brothers and sisters in the state, country and the whole world. May all of you shape into outstanding citizens in the days to come and contribute to sound nation building.”
Currently, Shankudeb Panda is the president of TMCP that is one of the major student organisations in West Bengal and has won student union elections in many colleges of the State. At present, Swarup Ghosh and Tamoghna Ghosh are the general secretaries of the TMCP. Vinay Mishra is its State treasurer.
