Singer Renu Sharma on 12 January accused Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Maharashtra Minister Dhananjay Munde of raping her multiple times and filed a complaint against him with Mumbai Police.
Meanwhile, the minister hit out at the complainant and accused her of hatching a conspiracy to extort money from him. He termed the allegations false and defamatory.
Renu Sharma from Madhya Pradesh, who works as a playback singer, took to her social media handle and shared a copy of complaint she filed against Dhananjay Munde. She accused the Mumbai Police of not accepting the complaint.
In her post, the singer wrote that her life is in danger and has sought help from the police. As per the copy of the complaint, the singer has accused Dhananjay Panditrao Munde, who she claims is her brother-in-law, of sexual assault and rape under the pretext of marriage and blackmail.
The singer has alleged that Munde has been repeatedly exploiting her sexually by luring her with bright prospects in Bollywood.
Reacting to the allegations against him, the NCP leader said that all these allegations are fake, defamatory and blackmailing in nature.
Munde had earlier admitted that he was in a relationship with the sister of the accuser and he has two children from that relationship. However, he claimed that the woman who has accused him is conspiring to blackmail him and threaten him along with her brother.
“This whole case has been created for blackmail and defamation, so please don’t believe such charges,” he said in his Facebook post.
BJP National Executive member Kirit Somaiya said that Munde had “no right” to hold the position of a cabinet minister until he came clean on the allegations.
“Cabinet Minister Dhananjay Munde has himself admitted that he has one too many wives. And now a third woman has made fresh allegations. Dhananjay Munde has no right to remain in the state cabinet till he comes clean of all the allegations against him,” Somaiya said in a video posted on social media platform Twitter.
