Noida: Supporters of a certain Shrikant Tyagi allegedly misbehaved and threatened a woman inside a residential complex, entered the housing society and created a ruckus on Friday, 5 August. Today, the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh suspended six policemen for dereliction of duty. Multiple videos of the Friday incident surfaced on social media, purportedly showing Tyagi hurling expletives and assaulting the woman. He also hurled expletives addressed to her husband and made derogatory remarks about her.
Bulldozers reached Noida's Grand Omaxe society this morning as the encroachment drive against Shrikant Tyagi's illegal construction began inside the society complex. The society is located in sector 93 of Noida.
Who is Shrikant Tyagi?
Shrikant Tyagi is a self-styled national executive member of the BJP's Kisan Morcha who additionally claims to be the national co-coordinator of the ruling party's Yuva Samiti. Following the ruckus he created in Noida yesterday, after seeking out the address of a woman living in the housing society that his supporters attacked, Noida police commissioner Alok Singh today confirmed that seven people had been arrested in the case. All the arrested are said to be Tyagi's supporters who were involved in the mobbing of Noida's Grand Omaxe society.
BJP Kisan Morcha president has said Shrikant Tyagi has no association with the BJP and the farmers' association of the party has no youth wing.

Background of Shrikant Tyagi
Shrikant Tyagi is a resident of Bhangel in Noida. The Noida Authority acquired lands including the plot of Shrikant Tyagi's family in exchange for compensation in crores of rupees. With that money, Shrikant Tyagi started buying big vehicles and showing off his influence in the surrounding areas. He would travel in big vehicles escorted by bouncers. Shrikant Tyagi was initially involved in small sit-in demonstrations related to BJP when he befriended several leaders of the party.
Soon after putting barricades outside the house, police installed pickets at the location too. Boom barriers were installed and a metal detector checked visitors. Shrikant Tyagi lived like a feudal lord, hiring private security personnel to frisk visitors before they could meet him. He also put some sniffer dogs on the job to add more awe to the impression visitors got of him. He had four escort jeeps parked on the premises. He would go around only in a convoy!
Shrikanth left his village Bhangel three years ago and started living in Sector 94, Noida, but not before he created trouble in Lucknow in 2020.
A woman once arrived at the flat of the Tyagis located in Gomtinagar, Lucknow, to meet the self-styled politician. Tyagi's wife happened to reach home at the same time. The two women fought over some trivia and in February 2020, Tyagi's wife lodged an FIR at the Gomti Nagar police station. The woman who came to meet Shrikant Tyagi filed a counter-FIR.
Shrikant Tyagi has more than half a dozen flats. He has property from Ghaziabad to Meerut. It also has a contract for laying CNG pipelines. There are many contract works in Uttarakhand too. It also has a market in Bhangel, Noida. Tyagi gets a rent of lakhs from this market.
Many cases are registered against Tyagi under serious sections. Five FIRs have been registered against him in Noida. A case of section 308 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of IPC is registered against him in Sector 39. An FIR was lodged against Tyagi under Section 307 by his wife. In a recent case, the police registered two FIRs against him. An FIR under serious sections was registered earlier.
Tyagi's image in the area is that of a domineering leader. Even the Noida Authority is said to have been in awe of him. This was why people's complaints against Tyagi turned into an exercise in futility. Shrikant Tyagi erected a wall in the common area and ordered illegal constructions in the basement. In 2019, a written complaint was made about it, but the authority took no action.
How did Shrikant Tyagi create the impression he was a BJP leader?
Shrikant Tyagi would regularly post on Facebook and Twitter photographs showing him accompanying prominent leaders of the BJP after mentioning in the description of the profiles that he was the "national coordinator of the Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha". His Twitter bio-data read "National Executive Member, Bharatiya Janata Party Kisan Morcha".
The compilation of photographs of Shrikant Tyagi also includes the late Kalyan Singh, the former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh! You can understand how from time immemorial Shrikant Tyagi has been close to Bharatiya Janata Party leaders.
There is also a picture of senior BJP leader Hriday Narayan Dixit with Shrikant Tyagi in which Shrikant Tyagi is seen giving him a bouquet.
Yogi is seen standing close to Adityanath at an inauguration ceremony in which Lal Bahadur Shastri Smriti Bhavan Museum was inaugurated.
Shrikant Tyagi's picture is present with Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Maurya General VK Singh, BJP President JP Nadda and many big BJP leaders. Not only this, a picture of him with former President Kovind is also present on social media. In this picture, he is presenting a picture to the President along with some leaders.
The police said further interrogations in the case are underway.
BJP IT Cell head Amit Malviya has endorsed the police action against Tyagi. He wrote on Twitter:

The trouble had begun on 6 August when the police in Noida detained four close associates and impounded two vehicles of Shrikant Tyagi. The woman objected to the plantation of some trees by Shrikant Tyagi, citing a violation of rules even as he claimed he was within his rights to do so.

What actions have the police taken against Shrikant Tyagi?
Police booked Shrikant Tyagi under Section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on any woman, intending to outrage or knowing it to be likely that he will thereby outrage her modesty) of the Indian Penal Code for his spat with a co-resident of their housing society in Sector 93 B of Noida.
"We had responded immediately after the episode came to light and an FIR has been lodged accordingly. Today, during a further investigation into the matter, four close associates of Shrikant Tyagi were detained for questioning," Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (law and order) Ranvijay Singh had said on 6 August.
Accomplices of Shrikant Tyagi arrested so far
"The police team that went to the spot found three vehicles of Tyagi there. Two of them were found violating the Motor Vehicle Act and were impounded. The third vehicle, a Toyota Fortuner, had the official symbol of the Uttar Pradesh government on it but was in violation of rules. A separate FIR has been lodged for misuse of government symbol," Singh said.
The officer said police teams were continuously raiding possible whereabouts of Tyagi and were making all efforts to ensure his arrest at the earliest. He clarified that no police security was provided to Tyagi by the Gautam Buddh Nagar commissionerate.
Meanwhile, Gautam Buddh Nagar MP Mahesh Sharma and BJP's Noida unit chief Mahesh Gupta visited the Grand Omaxe society and met the local residents. They told the residents that Tyagi is not a member of the BJP and assured their party's support.
