ABJP Corporator Pradeep Ramchandani was assaulted by Shiv Sena supporters in Mumbai’s Ulhasnagar area. Sources alleged that the Shiv Sena workers were agitated after Union Minister Narayan Rane allegedly made the controversial slap remark.
The video, which has gone viral on social media, showed that a group of men pinned down Pradeep on the road and kept hitting him. The Shiv Sena men threw black ink on the corporator’s face and shirt.
The BJP corporator, Pradeep Ramchandani from Ulhasnagar, was caught in front of the Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation gate. Members of Yuva Sena, the youth wing of Shiv Sena, namely Bala Shrikhande, Dyneshwar Marshale, Mahendra Patil, Vinod Salekar and about seven or eight others manhandled the corporator (this designation is referred to as “councillor” is some parts of the country). They sprinkled ink on his face.
Pradeep’s son Rohit tried to save his father but was unsuccessful. Some workers of the BJP got Pradeep admitted to the central hospital for treatment following the assault. Rajendra Kote, the police inspector at the Mumbai Central police station, reached the spot for investigation subsequently.
Ramchandani said he used to regularly post on social-networking sites the illegal work of Shiv Sena in Ulhasnagar. This was a revenge or rivalry over the post.
In Thane city, Naresh Mhaske, Mayor of Thane Municipal Corporation and Shiv Sena corporator, took out a protest march along with Shiv Sena party members, which was stopped by the police team. The protest saw slogans against Rane and demand for his arrest after an FIR was registered with the Naupada police station in Thane.
Union Minister Narayan Rane was arrested on 24 August over his controversial remarks against Uddhav Thackeray in which he said he would slap the Maharashtra chief minister.
Speaking to media after his arrest, Narayan Rane said, “They (Maharashtra government) are scared of me. That’s why they are doing it. I didn’t say anything wrong. I said that if I had been there, I would’ve slapped him.”
Stating that the state cannot fight with the central government of which he is a part, Rane added, “His (Uddhav Thackeray’s) son was involved in SSR (Sushant Singh Rajput) and Disha Salian cases. No arrest happened then. Why me? It’s totally wrong.”
Rane was later released on bail.
