Shilpa Shetty donates Rs 21 lakh to PM-CARES Fund

As the country is witnessing a 21-day lockdown, celebrities are making sure to motivate fans to stay inside their homes during the coronavirus pandemic. Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty Kundra on Sunday said that she has pledged to donate a sum of Rs 21 lakhs to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PM-CARES Fund.

Many celebrities have also made donations towards coronavirus relief efforts. Akshay Kumar on Saturday donated Rs 25 crore towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s PM-CARES fund.

The actor took to Twitter to make the announcement and also urged people to do their bit in the fight to combat the coronavirus outbreak.

“For humanity, our country, & fellow citizens that need us; now is the time, let’s do our bit.@TheRajKundra& I pledge 21 lacs to @narendramodi ji’s PM-CARES Fund,” she tweeted.

“Every drop in the ocean counts, so I urge you all to help fight this situation. #IndiaFightsCorona @PMOIndia,” she added.

Shilpa Shetty, who recently welcomed baby girl Samisha via surrogacy. The Dhadkan actress took to her social media account and also urged people to do their bit to combat Coronavirus.

Celebrities like Richa Chadha, Pooja Bhatt, Vidya Balan, Riteish Deshmukh, Shruti Haasan and others are encouraging fans to support daily wage workers.

Across many film industries around the world, shoots have been cancelled and film releases have been postponed due to coronavirus. In India too, all film and television shoots have been halted.

Shetty starred in the unreleased 2010 Indo-Chinese drama The Desire, a film rescued during production by her mother, who stepped in when its producer abandoned the project unfinished.

In February 2009, Shetty and Raj Kundra became part owners of the Indian Premier League franchise cricket team Rajasthan Royals by paying approximately US$15.4 million for an 11.7% stake. Shetty also co-owns the Indian chain of spas and salon called Iosis.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of positive coronavirus cases in India rose to 1023 on Sunday inclduing 95 recoveries and 27 deaths.
