Uttar Pradesh Electricity Corporation vice-chairman and of state minister rank Rajeshwar Singh has received threats to his life. He has alleged that Shakeel Ahmad, assistant store officer of Electricity Development Corporation, told him he would suffer the same fate as Hindu activist Kamlesh Tiwari. The Bakshi Talab police station has lodged an FIR against Shakeel Ahmed.

On 19 September, Rajeshwar Singh was inspecting the seed corporation’s warehouse located in the BKT area of the city of Lucknow, the capital of Uttar Pradesh. He said that ever since he had got the responsibility of the seed stock, he had been constantly inspecting it.

While inspecting the BKT plant, Assistant Stores Officer Shakeel Ahmed, who has been posted here for 23 years, was not present. Project Officer AK Rao talked to Shakeel Ahmed about eight times, reminding him of his duty. Singh kept waiting for about 2.5 hours.

Meanwhile, Ahmed continued to make excuses. He would tell Rao he was in the office and then say that he was on the way. Then said that his car had a flat tyre. It was then that Singh talked to Shakeel Ahmed over the phone directly.

Singh claimed to have detected a scam of Rs 56 crore in the seed reserves during his inspection tour.

Singh has filed a lawsuit against Ahmed at the Lucknow BKT police station in the capacity of a state minister under Sections 504, 506 and 507 of the IPC. Shakeel Ahmed is likely to be arrested soon after the investigation.
