Shaheen Bagh’s mercy: Noida-Faridabad bylane opens for 40 min

The Supreme Court-appointed interlocutors have so far failed to end the imbroglio in the two days they spent with protesters at Shaheen Bagh

The Noida-Faridabad road, closed due to the protest against the citizenship amendment law in Shaheen Bagh, was opened for some time on Friday. A bus was damaged on this route, due to which the road was opened only for about 40 min. After that, it was closed again.

Those 40 min hardly came as a to the commuters of the region because only motorcycles were allowed through a narrow gap between police barricades and that stretch did not connect Delhi to Noida. Sporadic motorcycle riders were seen using the stretch to get to the other side.

Motorists, who had heard a rumour that Shaheen Bagh has lifted its arbitrary embargo on Delhi vehicles’ passage to Noida and vice versa, reached up to the barricade. The police asked them to go for the detour that they had been doing for the past 69 days.

Supreme Court-appointed interlocutors Sadhana Ramachandran and Sanjay Hegde reached the venue of demonstrations on Thursday to end the Shaheen Bagh blockade. They spoke to the agitators. Ramachandran said they had come back because the previous day the crowd wanted them to.

“Yesterday, we got the blessings of Dādi. We are all citizens of India. We have to understand that and walk together. You have to understand that the CAA issue will come before the Supreme Court,” Ramachandran told the crowd.

Then the interlocutors started talks with the squatters on the issue of the closed arterial road. Hegde said if someone was suffering, everyone should find a way out together.

Shortly after, Ramachandran objected to the presence of the media again. After this, representatives of the media went out of the protest venue.

The Supreme Court-appointed interlocutors have so far failed to end the imbroglio in the two days they spent in Shaheen Bagh. The squatters have made it clear they would not budge from the spot unless the CAA is scrapped, a demand the interlocutors are not empowered to entertain.
