Muslim Women Act Proves Modi Can If He Wants To

The rift between the Shiv Sena and the BJP over the formation of government in Maharashtra has now affected Delhi, with Union minister Arvind Ganpat Sawant announcing his resignation from the post under Shiv Sena’s quota in the Narendra Modi government. Sawant tweeted to share the information with the people. He then gave the details of the decision by holding a press conference at 11 AM.

The bet by the Shiv Sena is being seen as a step to form a government in Maharashtra with the NCP. For government formation by its alliance with the BJP in Maharashtra, the Shiv Sena had placed a precondition of making Aaditya Thackeray the chief minister of the State and allotting it 50% of the ministerial posts. It said this had been agreed upon with the BJP at the time of striking the pre-poll alliance whereas the party ruling at the Centre denied it, saying the 50% sharing formula applied to seat-sharing for elections alone and not power-sharing after the election.

Now the question is whether, after separating from Team Modi at the Centre, the Shiv Sena will announce its departure from the NDA as well.

Sawant informs with a tweet in Marathi

Arvind Sawant is an MP from the South Mumbai constituency and a minister appointed by the prime minister under the Shiv Sena quota in the NDA at the Centre. He was given the Ministry of Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, but he has now resigned from the post.

Sawant tweeted, “Shiv Sena stands with the truth. There is no justification to remain in the government in Delhi in such a bad environment. I am resigning from the post of a minister and will present my side to the Press at 11 o’clock today.”

BJP told governor it could not form government

Yesterday, the BJP had met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to tell him it could not form government in Maharashtra without the help of Shiv Sena. After meeting the governor, BJP leader Chandrakant Patil said that Shiv Sena had insulted the mandate. “We are not in a position to form a government. The Shiv Sena can form government with Congress and NCP if they want,” Patil said.

Among the BJP politicians who met the governor were several prominent leaders including caretaker Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Chandrakant Patil, Vinod Tawde and Pankaja Munde.

NCP-Shiv Sena+INC arithmetic

Shiv Sena has 56 seats in the new Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Sharad Pawar’s NCP has 54 seats and Congress has 44 seats. If a Shiv Sena-NCP post-poll alliance forms government and the Congress gives support from outside, this alliance will comfortably get the magic number of 145.
