MP of the Samajwadi Party Shafiqur Rahman Barq today justified the lynching of Babar Ali, the Muslim youth who was put to death for distributing laddus on the victory of the Yogi Adityanath-led Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the recent Uttar Pradesh election. The Samajwadi Party MP says that Muslims cannot tolerate the BJP and that Babar made a mistake by celebrating that party’s electoral victory.
Barq told the reporter of a television channel in the parliament complex, “Muslims don’t want any support going BJP’s way. They can stand any party, but voting should be according to the voter’s conscience. Muslims only get injustice in BJP rule.”
When asked that why Babar Ali was not entitled to listening to his conscience, which might have led to his decision to support the BJP, the Samajwadi Party MP said, “These people should know and their family members already know on what basis they extend their support to the BJP.
When asked whether Babar Ali’s act of distributing laddus was wrong, Barq said, “Yeah, that was wrong.”
BJP MP (Rajya Sabha) Brij Lal assured that the government would ensure that those who murdered Babar Ali get the strictest punishment by law. He said, “Muslims have voted for us too. Muslim women have voted for us. Since this was from the Muslim community, which the Samajwadi Party considers their vote bank, he was brutally murdered. The Yogi Adityanath government will take such action that no one will dare commit such crimes in the future. The action taken will be a lesson. We are with Babar’s family.”
“All perpetrators will go to jail in the murder case under the Gangster Act. Police will dig out their crime records. If any of them try to get a bail, they will not succeed as the police will invoke the NSA. We will not allow Uttar Pradesh to become another West Bengal,” the BJP MP said.
