Barabanki: Another child was subjected to the heinous crime of rape in Uttar Pradesh. This incident occurred in Barabanki. Salim, a resident of Tikaitnagar area of the district raped an eight-year-old girl of the same neighbourhood.
The 40-year-old accused waylaid the child in his cab under the pretext of a joyride and then raped her.
The police arrested the accused after the victim’s family complained. Salim has been charged under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and kept in police custody — to be produced shortly in a court.
The child was first sent to the district hospital for women and, from there, referred to the Civil Hospital in Barabanki for medical treatment.
The victim is in critical condition.
According to police sources, Salim, a resident of the Tikaitnagar area, would take children of the locality to a garden under the pretext of joyrides in his cab.
Initially, quite a few families had refused Salim, but he insisted the children will be safe in his company. He said the kids would enjoy the joyrides.
On 6 June, Salim sent the other children home and detained the victim. Salim raped the innocent child, abandoned her in a critical condition left him and fled the village.
The incident follows the diabolical crime in Tappal of Aligarh district of Uttar Pradesh where Zahid and Aslam killed a two-year-old girl Twinkle Sharma after failing to return the money Zahid owed to the victim’s grandfather.

Barabanki had still not emerged from the hooch tragedy that claimed the lives of 23 while several others have been taken ill after drinking spurious liquor when this incident of rape of a little child has shaken the local society.
