Rhea Chakraborty arrested by NCB, taken for medical test

Narcotics Control Bureau arrests Rhea Chakrabarty today under various sections of NDPS. She will be taken for a medical test shortly and is likely to be produced before a magistrate through video-conferencing for remand in the evening. Reportedly, she will now be procured before the court, along with three other arrested accused.

The NCB is likely to file a plea before the court seeking that they need to keep all four in police remand for further questioning. Possibly she will be confronted with others in days to come and will be taken to places for recovery if any. Reportedly, to break cartel her custodial interrogation is needed.

Rhea Chakraborty was being questioned over drug abuse case in connection with the death of Rajput on 14 June. The NCB had questioned Chakraborty for about eight hours on 7 September and six hours on Sunday.

The NCB arrested the three men in this case last week. Chakraborty’s family and lawyer had said that they anticipate her arrest after Showik was taken into custody.

The agency had earlier said that it had obtained mobile phone chat records and other electronic data that suggested some banned drugs were allegedly procured by these people.

Chakraborty’s father Indrajit had issued an emotional statement after his son’s arrest. “Congratulations India, you have arrested my son, I’m sure next on the line is my daughter and I don’t know who is next thereafter,” Lt Col Indrajit Chakraborty (retd) had said in the statement.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against Chakraborty and others in connection with the actor’s death.

Chakraborty was earlier questioned by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the CBI that are probing different angles surrounding Rajput’s death.

Sushant Singh Rajput’s autopsy had indicated that he died by suicide. His father, however, filed an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty in Patna, accusing her of driving his son to suicide and misappropriating his money. Chakraborty has denied the allegations on several occasions.

‘Let’s smash patriarchy’: message on Rhea’s tee goes viral

As per a report, the message read: “Roses are red, violets are blue, Let’s smash patriarchy, Me and you.” Rhea has been in the centre of a storm after Sushant’s father KK Singh filed an FIR in Patna in July this year, accusing Rhea of abetment to suicide and siphoning off funds. Rhea has all along denied any wrongdoing, but matters took a new turn with the emergence of a drugs angle in the case.

On 4 September, Rhea’s brother Showik was arrested after it came to light from What’sApp chat conversations that Showrik helped arrange drugs for Sushant. Showik, along with Sushant’s house help Samuel, were arrested under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

On 7 September, the case took a fresh turn with Mumbai Police getting a complaint against Sushant’s sisters and others after Rhea claimed that they prescribed drugs to him without consultation. An offence has been registered against Sushant’s sisters Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh, Delhi-based doctor Tarun Kumar and others, an official said on 8 September.

In accordance with orders of the Supreme Court, the case has been transferred to Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for further investigation, a Mumbai police spokesperson said.
