Mumbai: Ranveer Singh has injured his shoulder during a football match, the actor’s spokesperson today said. The 32-year-old star, however, will continue shooting for his film Gully Boy, directed by Zoya Akhtar.
“Ranveer Singh has injured his shoulder during a football match and has been advised not to overstrain it for at least one month. Ranveer is, however, not taking any breaks and will continue shooting for Gully Boy as per schedule,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
According to the statement, “the actor is in consultation with the doctors and who will advise him, in a day or two, on whether he would able to perform at this year’s IPL opening ceremony in which he is doing the final act.”
Apart from Gully Boy, Ranveer is also working in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, in which he is playing a cop, and Kabir Khan’s 83, featuring him as Indian skipper Kapil Dev.
Ranveer made his acting debut in 2010 with a leading role in Yash Raj Films’ romantic comedy Band Baaja Baaraat. The film emerged as a critical and commercial success, earning Singh a Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut.
His highest-grossing release came with Bhansali’s period drama Padmaavat, in which he portrayed Alauddin Khilji to critical acclaim with co-starring Deepika Padukone and Shahid Kapoor, which marked his third collaboration with Bhansali and Padukone.
Padmaavat‘s production budget of 2 billion ($31 million) made it the most expensive Hindi film ever made. However, the film turned out to be a huge success with a worldwide gross of 5.25 billion ($80 million).
As of January 2018, Singh will star opposite Alia Bhatt in Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy, a musical based on the life of rappers living in Mumbai’s ghettos. He will also star in Rohit Shetty’s Simmba, a remake of the Telugu action film Temper, co-starring Sara Ali Khan. Singh has also committed to a biopic of the cricketer Kapil Dev, entitled 83.
