Ranchi: Rain may play spoilsport during International Yoga Day celebrations

Around 179 Nations have taken a pledge to adopt yoga into their day to day life with the motivation of Prime Minister Modi who wanted to make the practice of Yoga Universal

New Delhi/Ranchi: Though all the arrangements for the fifth International Yoga Day 2019, to be celebrated in Ranchi on Friday (21 June), have been put in place, rain is likely to play spoilsport during the mega event, if Met officials are to be believed. The main event will be held at Prabhat Tara in Ranchi. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will lead the main function.

Indian Meteorological Department has issued weather warning which says that moderate thunderstorm likely to affect some parts of Eastern Latehar, Southern-Chatra, Hazaribagh, Koderma, Ranchi and Jamtara within next two-three hours. It may be accompanied with strong winds reaching 30-40 kmph or more, light to moderate rainfall and lightning.

Rai Mahimapat Ray, DCP, Ranchi told Sirf News over the phone that all the arrangements have been put in place for the mega event. In the wake of the Prime Ministerís visit, security has been beefed up. The entire area has been cordoned off. The place where the main event will take place is spread over 90 thousand square feet and has the capacity to accommodate about 25000 people.

He further said that the area has been divided into several blocks for security reasons. Three thousand students, selected through an online process, will take part in tomorrow’s event. There will be no entry at the venue without a valid pass. For the participants arrangement of mobile toilets is already there.

According to the sources at PMO, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will reach Ranchi tonight. He will stay at Raj Bhawan and will reach the main venue at 6.30 AM next morning.

According to Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghuwar Das, the presence of Modi on the International Yoga Day is going to be a great occasion for the state as Prime Minister will give a message from Ranchi to the whole world on Yoga.

This year International Yoga Day of Ranchi would be eco-friendly, and hence Khadi Yoga Mat would be used, in place of the usual rubber mat. The day is celebrated to raise awareness of the many benefits of practising yoga.

On 11 December 2014, the United Nations had proclaimed 21 June as the International Day of Yoga after recognising its universal appeal.

In the national capital, the main event will be at Rajpath in New Delhi. This will be organized by New Delhi Municipal Council, NDMC in association with Ministry of AYUSH.

Apart from the main event, the programmes will be held at Red Fort, Nehru Park, Lodhi Garden, Talkatora Garden, Yamuna Sports Complex and in Dwarka. A yoga shivir will also be organised for the Members of Parliament at the premises of Parliament House.
