Ranbir’s tenant sues him for Rs 50 lakh

Ranbir has flatly denied the accusations. According to the actor, Suryawanshi was not asked to vacate the flat because he was moving in

Mumbai: Bollywood actor Ranbir Kapoor, currently busy with  duties in Bulgaria, has been sued for over Rs50 lakh by the tenant of his Pune apartment, according to the report.

The resident Sheetal Surywanshi has sought damages and interest for being evicted much before the lock-in period stated in the agreement. The case has been filed in the Pune civil court and the tenant has demanded Rs 50.40 lakh as damages, the report said.

She claims that she was asked to vacate the house in August 2017, 11 months after she moved in. She moved out in October 2017 and said her suffered ‘severe inconvenience and hardships’ due to the eviction.

According to the agreement, the licence fee to be paid was Rs 4 lakh per month for the first 12 months and Rs 4.20 lakh for the next 12, reports say. Suryawanshi claims to have also paid a deposit of Rs 24 lakh.

Sheetal Suryawanshi is reportedly seeking damages for Rs 50.40 lakh and also an interest of Rs 1.08 lakh. The case is with the Pune civil court.

Suryawanshi also said that she had been “maliciously” deceived by Ranbir to vacate the house, despite the lock-in period of 24 months.

Ranbir has flatly denied the accusations. According to the actor, Suryawanshi was not asked to vacate the flat because he was moving in. The clause in the agreement states that the lock-in period would be of 12 months and that the licensee (Suryawanshi) cannot terminate it before said period.

Ranbir’s response stated, “Plaintiff cannot unilaterally change, modify or interpret leave and license agreement to suit her convenience.” It further added that Suryavanshi vacated the flat on her own free will and that she defaulted on rent for 3 months before leaving which has been deducted from the deposit.

The case has been scheduled for 28 August.

As of July 2018, Kapoor has three upcoming projects. He will feature opposite Alia Bhatt in Ayan Mukerji’s fantasy trilogy, the first of which is named , in which he plays a superhero. He has committed to play a dacoit in Karan Malhotra’s period adventure film Shamshera, alongside Vaani Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, and will star with Ajay Devgn in Luv Ranjan’s as-yet untitled romantic comedy.
