Rajasthan: 50-year-old temple priest set on fire in Karauli

In a shocking incident a temple priest was set on fire in Rajasthan’s Karauli. The 50-year old priest was set on fire with kerosene and petrol by six people after he resisted an attempt by the land mafia to encroach upon land that belonged to the temple authorities. He later succumbed to injuries. According to reports, part of the land was gifted to him by the temple authorities.

The priest later succumbed to his serious burn injuries at Sawai Man Singh (SMS) Hospital. Reports suggest there were six assailants who attacked the priest. 

The priest was attacked after he resisted an attempt by the land mafia to encroach upon the land that belonged to the temple. According to reports, part of the land was gifted to the priest by the temple authorities and he was constructing a house on the plot. The priest had suffered 50% burn injuries in the attack.

The video of the incident has gone viral on social media. In the said video, the priest can be seen having burn injuries all over his body as he sat on a hospital bed. He can also be heard crying in pain.

In a statement given to police, the priest stated that few influential people including accused Kailash Meena and his sons tried to encroach his land. He said that during a dispute, accused set the fence on fire in which priest got severely burnt.

The incident happened at Bukna village in Sapotra, Karauli district, police said.

As per the information given by the police, they have arrested the main accused Kailash Meena. The priest died in the hospital in Jaipur where he was admitted after the incidence.

As per the news report by leading media, the incident happened when he tried to stop an attempt by the land mafia to encroach upon land given to him.
