Economy Railways carried 357.57 m tonnes of freight in Apr-Jul

Indian Railways carried 357.57 million tonnes of revenue-earning freight during the period 1 April- 31 July.

The freight carried shows an increase of 14.57 million tonnes over the freight traffic of 343.00 million tonnes actually carried during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 6.25%.

During the month of July 2014, the revenue earning freight traffic carried by Railways was 89.89 million tonnes. There is an increase of 3.68 million tonnes over the actual freight traffic of 86.21 million tonnes carried by the Indian Railways during the same period last year, showing an increase of 4.27%.

Earlier, Railways had generated Rs 24541.96 crore of revenue earnings from commodity-wise freight traffic during April-June 2014 as compared to Rs. 22795.55 crore during the corresponding period last year, registering an increase of 7.66%.
