Haryana MLA Aseem Goel on 25 December lampooned Indian National Congress (INC) leader Rahul Gandhi for his ‘Hindu vs Hindutva-vadi’ comments, saying that the INC MP himself did not know whether he was a Hindu, Muslim or Christian.
Goel said, “Rahul Gandhi himself does not know if he is Hindu, Muslim, or Christian. There should be research on this subject. He should not worry about the country, but about the history and geography of himself and his family.”
The remarks followed the Wayanad MP’s act of differentiating between Hinduism and Hindutva on 23 December, saying Hindus followed the path of truth whereas Hindutva looted under the guise of religion.
Referring to a questionable news report claiming a rush to buy land around Ram Janmbhoomi Temple in Ayodhya, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday drew a comparison between Hinduism and Hindutva saying Hindus follow the path of truth whereas Hindutva loots under the guise of religion.
Rahul Gandhi had then tweeted: “Hindus follow the path of truth. Hindutva loots under the guise of religion.”
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has ordered an inquiry after names of relatives of several state ministers and officials appear in Ayodhya land deals. Special Secretary Revenue will investigate the matter and present a report to the government in a week.
Even on 19 December, Rahul Gandhi said that Hindus believe that every person’s DNA is unique and different while Hindutvavadi believes that all Indians have the same DNA.
“Hindus believe that every person’s DNA is different and unique. Hindutvavadi believes that all Indians have the same DNA,” he tweeted.
This remark led to a burst of jokes too. Author, scientist and political commentator Anand Ranganathan quoted the former INC president and said on Twitter: “This guy is a thicker custard than one imagined. We all have the same DNA, is a quote often used to signify unity, brotherhood, oneness. Samjhe? In any case, there is only 0.1% variance between Human DNA across all 8 billion humans. 99.9% identical.”
Meanwhile, Union Minister A Narayanaswamy has targeted Rahul Gandhi too. The minister said the INC leader was not a Hindu and made such remarks whenever elections approach.
In remarks over the past few days, the former INC president has repeatedly sought to highlight the difference between Hindu and Hindutva and described Hindu as tolerant and Hindutva as power-seeking.
“Whenever the election comes he (Rahul Gandhi) speaks like this only, but he is not a Hindu,” the minister told reporters on the sidelines of a social empowerment camp organised in the Phephna area of District Ballia in Uttar Pradesh.
