Two terrorists were eliminated by the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama on 9 December. An encounter broke out between the security forces and the terrorists early morning today. The Kashmir Zone Police said that the gunfight started in Tiken area.
As per the latest inputs, when joint troops of 182 Batallion CRPF, Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police were carrying out cordon and search operations (CASO), the terrorists which were hiding in the area opened fire on the security personnel. The joint forces retaliated and reports said that the operations are still underway.
The identity of the slain terrorists is yet to be identified.
Police spokesman confirmed the killing of two terrorists in the encounter which is still underway.
“02 unidentified #terrorists killed. #Operation going on. Further details shall follow,” tweeted J&K police spokesman.
The identity of the slain terrorists have not been revealed by the police This is the third operation launched by the forces in Kashmir since last night. Two other operations were launched in north Kashmir, however, no contact was established with terrorists during those cordon and search operations.
Two ultras had been killed so far in the operation, the official said, adding that a civilian sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.
The identity and group affiliation of the slain militants are being ascertained, he added.
Meanwhile, three civilians were injured in a grenade attack at Singhpora in Pattan area. The injured have been shifted to a hospital. More details are awaited in regards to the particular incident.
Notably, the terrorists are desperately trying to disrupt the Jammu and Kashmir District Development Council (DDC) elections.
The J&K DDC elections are being held in eight phases and will conclude on 19 December. The election results will be announced on 22 December. The crucial polls are the first being held after the abrogation of Article 370 and the reorganisation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir.
