Rebel Indian National Congress (INC) MLA Aditi Singh on 20 November called out party’s Uttar Pradesh General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra over her comments on the repeal of farm laws, saying the latter has run out of issues to politicise.
“Priyanka Gandhi had a problem when Bills were brought. She has a problem when the (farm) laws have been repealed. What does she want? She should say it clearly. She is only politicising the matter. She has now run out of issues to politicise,” news agency ANI quoted Aditi Singh as saying.
After Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 18 November announced to repeal the three farm laws, Priyanka Gandhi had said that the prime minister took the decision sensing defeat in the upcoming elections to five states next year, including Uttar Pradesh.
“Why is he doing this? Is the nation not understanding that polls are approaching and they might have felt that the situation isn’t right? They can see in surveys that the situation isn’t right. So, they’ve come to apologise before the polls,” Priyanka Gandhi had said.
Aditi Singh, who won the Rae Bareli seat in the 2017 Uttar Pradesh Assembly election, has been a bitter critic of her own party. In the past, she has criticised Priyanka Gandhi and was even shown a show cause notice by the party for attending a special session of the UP Assembly in 2019 which the INC boycotted.
She has praised the Yogi Adityanath-led BJP government in Uttar Pradesh from time to time.
Speaking about Priyanka Gandhi’s comments on Lakhimpur Kheri incident, Aditi Singh said, “As far as Lakhimpur and other issues are concerned, Priyanka Gandhi always politicised it. The CBI probe is underway into Lakhmipur incident, Supreme Court is taking cognisance of it. If she doesn’t trust the institutions, I can’t understand whom does she trust.”
Aditi Singh is the daughter of veteran INC leader Akhilesh Singh, who had been a five-time MLA from Rae Bareli seat. Considered close to the Gandhi family, Akhilesh Singh succeeded in getting ticket for Aditi in 2017.
