Priyanka Chopra quits Salman Khan’s Bharat

Bharat would have been Priyanka Chopra's fourth film with Salman Khan, 11 years after their last movie God Tussi Great Ho

Mumbai: Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas wedding seem to be imminent as Bharat director Ali Abbas Zafar confirmed that the Quantico star has indeed left the film starring Salman Khan. Priyanka and the American singer have been dating for more than two months and now reports suggest that the couple is engaged.

Director Ali Abbas Zafar revealed in a tweet, Priyanka has recused herself from the project for a ‘very, very special reason.’ If this were not enough of a hint, Ali’s tweet also contains a thinly-veiled reference to Priyanka’s rumoured boyfriend Nick Jonas – ‘she told us in the Nick of time’ with an upper-case? The Bharat team is ‘very happy for her’? It doesn’t get more pointed than this. And if even that were not enough, Ali ended his tweet with a revealing wink emoticon. OK, we get it – it doesn’t take a genius to join the dots – international sites like People and Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas are already engaged.

After fevered reports that Priyanka has bowed out of the ambitious Bharat, Priyanka’s return to Bollywood after three years in America where she did films and a TV show, Ali Abbas took to Twitter on Thursday morning. “Yes Priyanka Chopra is no more part of @Bharat_TheFilm & and the reason is very very special, she told us in the Nick of time about her decision and we are very happy for her … Team Bharat wishes @priyankachopra loads of love & happiness for life,” he wrote. Bharat’s shooting started a few days ago and Priyanka was expected to join it in August.

Priyanka and Nick’s whirlwind romance have kept them in the news constantly and international media has now said that the couple got engaged in London last week.

Meanwhile, with Salman as its lead, Bharat also stars the young sensation, Disha Patani. Priyanka is currently in Mumbai and is busy with Shonali Bose’s film, The Sky is Pink, reportedly the true-life story of Ayesha Chaudhary.

Speculation has already started who will replace Priyanka in Bharat. Online chatter is zeroing in on Katrina Kaif, Salman’s ex-girlfriend and his co-star from the successful Tiger Zinda Hai and Ek Tha Tiger.

Bharat, which is set in a circus, also stars Tabu, Disha Patani, and Nora Fatehi. It began filming earlier this month and will release on Eid next year. Bharat, produced by Salman’s brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri, is an adaptation of South Korean Ode To My Father.
