In India

Usually, one has to buy a ticket to see off or receive someone at a railway platform. For this, the Indian Railways charges you Rs 10. But, there is also a railway station where you will not need to spend a paisa for a platform ticket.

The Railways has installed a special machine at the Anand Vihar railway station in Delhi, with the help of which you can get platform tickets for absolutely free.

There is only one condition for you to avail of this offer. You will have to perform sit-ups in front of this machine. If you can do 30 sit-ups in 180 seconds, the vendor dispenses a platform ticket for you for free.

Indian Railways has taken this initiative to promote fitness. The ministry has named this machine ‘Fit India Dand Baithak Machine’.

Union Railway Minister Piyush Goyal shared information about this machine through a tweet on Friday. Goyal has shared a video in this tweet. Since then, this video has gone viral on social media.

The minister wrote, “Save and be fit: A unique experiment to encourage fitness at Delhi’s Anand Vihar railway station. Platform tickets can be taken free of charge after exercising in front of the machine installed here.”

The Narendra Modi government had in its first term initiated a fitness initiative where ministers and celebrities from the field of sports and entertainment were encouraged to tweet their videos showing them performing physical exercises. Kiren Rijiju and Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore were among the ministers whose exercise regimen impressed thousands on Twitter. Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli participated in the challenge too.

The challenge was to tag three other people known to the Twitter user who would have to perform physical exercises before the camera as well and then challenge three others. The chain thus formed motivated lakhs of Indians to be fit. With this lure of getting a platform ticket for free, it seems the Indian Railways is now carrying the baton of that relay.
