Maharashtra BJP leader Pankaja Munde has called for a meeting of party supporters next month through a Facebook post that smacks of muscle-flexing. The meeting of supporters will be held on the birth anniversary of her father Gopinath Munde on 12 December.
Pankaja said that she would make a big decision in the next eight or ten days.
Pankaja posted in Marathi on Facebook, writing, “After our defeat in the election, I received many messages of supporters on phone and who requested me for the meeting, but the political situation was such that I could not meet the supporters immediately.”
The Facebook post further reads, “A decision should be taken on our future action in the changed political scenario. In the next eight or ten days, I will decide what to do next, which path I have to follow.”
“It is important to know what our strength is,” Pankaja Munde said, adding, “I have a lot to say. I hope that my jawans will definitely reach the rally.”
Pankaja Munde was a minister in the Devendra Fadnavis government. She lost the election from her stronghold Parli. Her cousin Dhananjay Munde defeated her. Dhananjay is currently a part of the Uddhav government. He was the leader of opposition in the previous Maharashtra Legislative Assembly. Dhananjay defeated his cousin by nearly 30,000 votes. While Dhananjay Munde received 1,21,186 votes, Pankaja Munde received 90,418. In 2014, Pankaja Munde defeated her cousin from Parli.
Pankaja, since 2014, dropped enough hints whenever opportunity struck to suggest she would be a better chief minister than Fadnavis. State BJP leaders including Fadnavis, while uncomfortable with her manoeuvres, did not recommend any disciplinary action against her to the central leadership of the party. However, gradually, she was reduced from the status of Fadnavis’s friend to a minor player.
