Another case of murder of a Hindu saint! Again in Maharashtra! In District Nanded, unknown assailants killed two holy people, including a sadhu, at an ashram. Earlier, a mob had lynched two sadhus in Palghar, Maharashtra.
Assailants killed Rudra Pashupatinath Maharaj and his servant in the ashram on Saturday night at Nagthana in Taluka Umri of Nanded, Maharashtra. The body of the sadhu was found in the ashram while the body of the sevadar was found lying at a distance from the ashram.
Police reached the spot after receiving information about the incident and took the body in their possession and sent it for postmortem.
Police found the body of the sadhu‘s assistant Bhagwan Shinde near the shivacharya‘s (devotee of Lord Shiva) body near the bathroom of the house. The murderer slit the throats of the victims.
After the murder, the criminals tried to flee in their car but then dumped the vehicle and ran away. Police sources say the criminals were thieves, even as the investigation into the twin murders is going on.
BJP leader and spokesperson Ram Kadam slammed the Shiv Sena-NCP-INC government over the killing of the sadhus. He said that for the second time in a span of one month, criminals killed sadhus in Maharashtra.
“The government has completely failed, he said, adding, “When sadhus were killed earlier, the state government called the incident a rumour. Neither saints nor police are safe in Maharashtra.”
“In the last 2 months, criminals attacked more than 240 policemen in Maharashtra,” Kadam said and added that the Maharashtra government had “completely failed”.
Last month, suspected communist militants and converted people bearing Hindu names beat two sadhus to death in Gadchinchale village in Palghar, Maharashtra. The police escorting the sadhus remained mute spectators to the crime.
The two sadhus were going to attend the last visit of their guru in Gujarat during the lockdown but the police of the other state stopped them at the state border. Allegedly, the escorting police of Maharashtra misled the sadhus on their return into the route where a lynch mob was waiting for an ambush. The Palghar case has seen 101 arrests so far. Further investigation is in progress.
