Police have launched an investigation into the marriage of a 14-year-old girl with Pakistani MP Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi ― a leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) and Member of National Assembly (MNA) from Balochistan.
Pakistani police launched the probe after receiving a complaint from an NGO working for the welfare of women in Chitral.
The girl was a student of Government Girls High School, Jughoor, where her date of birth is recorded as 28 October 2006. Clearly, she has not attained the age of marriage, but marrying a minor is permitted in Islam and consummating the marriage once the girl attains puberty is permitted too ― as seen in the life of Prophet Mohammed who, at the age of 53, had married Aisha bint Abu Bakr, all of six, and consummated the marriage when she was nine.
At the same time, all Islamic states do not allow everything that Islam says is fine. Polygamy, child marriage, death sentence executed by stoning, slavery, wife battery, treating women and children of captured territories as slaves, etc are some of the examples of acts permissible in Islam but banned in most Islamic countries.
Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi, a Member of the Pakistani National Assembly is in his late 50s, Pakistani media says. As was Mohammed when he had married Aisha. But this is crime in the Islamic Republic of Pakistan!
Chitral police station SHO Inspector Sajjad Ahmed was quoted as saying that a few days ago on the complaint of the organisation, the police had reached the girl’s home, but her father had denied the girl’s marriage and had even given an affidavit to this effect.
The marriage of the teenage girl with the Pakistan Member of Parliament, who is four times her age, comes despite the country’s law, which does not allow marriages of girls below the age of 16 and recommends punishment for parents if they wilfully do it.
The legislator has only solemnised nikah with the girl while a proper marriage ceremony is yet to be held.
Meanwhile, the Lower Chitral DPO said that the girl’s father had assured the authorities that he would not send his daughter to the MP’s place until she attains 16 years of age.
Previously, in March 2020, the European Union had extended the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) Plus status for cash-strapped Pakistan for two years, allowing the country access to preferential duties on exports to the EU.
“Pakistani courts recently ordered release Omar Sheikh, the terrorist who killed Daniel Pearl. Pakistani judiciary is compromised. It’s working on dictates of Pakistani military which sponsors terrorism,” South Asia Press said in a tweet.
“I am Uyghur and come from eastern Turkestan. I am here today to tell FATF that the real terrorists are the Chinese. Pakistan and China have economic friendship and use terrorism to kill people like Uyghurs, Kazakhs, Muslim people in eastern Turkestan,” said Adil Qasim, exiled Uyghur dissident.
