Delhi Police has issued a helpline number: 9910641064. Citizens of the city may note it down in their mobile phones and connect to the law enforcement agency via WhatsApp.
A citizen can thereafter do these things with the number primarily:
- Call for help when in distress;
- Register a complaint;
- Complain against corrupt or misbehaving cops.
“Officers found guilty are booked under Section 7 (public servant taking gratification other than legal remuneration in respect of an official act) and Section 13 (criminal misconduct by a public servant) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and other Sections under the Indian Penal Code,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Vigilance) Sindhu Pillai has said.
After the police receive a complaint with a video or still as evidence, a senior is first informed. Then the complainant is called for details of the case. In the meantime, the clip is sent for forensic scrutiny to the laboratory in Rohini. If it’s found genuine, the complaint is registered and the guilty officer arrested and suspended with immediate effect.
