Nitish to be Bihar CM again even if BJP gets more seats, says Shah

Shah said There is no if or but. Nitish Kumar will be the next chief minister of Bihar. We have made a public announcement and we are committed to it

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has asserted that Nitish Kumar will be the next chief minister of Bihar after the coming assembly elections in the state even if the saffron party gets more seats than its ally JD(U).

Saying that the NDA will get a two-third majority in the polls, Shah said that the BJP has made a public announcement about Nitish as Bihar CM face.

“There is no if or but. Nitish Kumar will be the next chief minister of Bihar. We have made a public announcement and we are committed to it,” he said in an interview when asked if the BJP will stake a claim for the chief ministership in the state if the saffron party gets more seats than the ally JD(U).

‘Made a public announcement and we are committed to it’

The Home Minister further said that the people of Bihar will get a “double engine” government – one at Bihar headed by Nitish Kumar and another at the Centre headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Talking about the Lok Janshakti Party breaking away from the ruling alliance in Bihar, Shah said the party was offered adequate seats but still walked away from the alliance.

“It was their (LJP) decision, not ours,” he added.

Don’t harbour any illusion: BJP to Chirag

On 16 October, LJP chief Chirag Paswan launched a scathing attack on the ruling JD(U) saying voting for it meant pushing the state to “backwardness”.

Releasing the second list of candidates on Twitter, he further asserted that the Lok Janshakti Party will come to power in the state and implement its ‘Bihar first, Bihari first’ vision document.

Shah’s statement comes after Chirag Paswan said he is “PM Modi’s Hanuman” after which the BJP hit back at him and asked him to not “harbour any illusion”.

The saffron party reiterated that it is contesting the forthcoming Bihar Assembly elections in alliance with the JD(U) and that Nitish Kumar will be its Chief Minister.
