While Nikhat Zareen and her poses have been trending since last week on social media platforms when she became the fifth Indian woman to win a gold medal at the World Boxing Championships, when the 25-year-old boxer from Telangana on Wednesday took to Twitter to share a heartfelt message for her ‘idol’ MC Mary Kom, the image became an instant hit.
Following in the footsteps of the likes of MC Mary Com (six titles), Sarita Devi, Jenny RL and Lekha KC, Zareen’s historic triumph has added to the list of achievers among Indians in the sport of boxing.
In the viral picture, Nikhat Zareen can be seen showing off her gold medal.
Boasting of an incredible six gold medals at the World Boxing Championships, Mary Kom gave her ‘blessings’ to Nikhat Zareen, writing, “No victory is complete without your idol’s blessings.”
This comes after Nikhat Zareen and Mary Kom had earlier come face to face over qualification for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, but they seem to have put all that behind them, and the picture has since gone viral on social media.
In the hours since the picture was posted by Nikhat Zareen, it has garnered 948 retweets, 82
quoted tweets and 21,400 likes.
Earlier, Mary Kom had congratulated Nikhat Zareen after her historic win in Istanbul.
Sharing a picture of Zareen on her Twitter account, Mary wrote, “Congratulations @nikhat_zareen for winning the gold medal. So proud of you for your historic performances and all the best for your future endeavours.”
Ever since winning the gold medal at World Boxing Championships, Nikhat Zareen has received congratulatory messages from all quarters, including the likes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra, and many Bollywood celebrities as well, including Salman Khan.
Nikhat Zareen, the Indian amateur boxer, won the gold medal at the 2022 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships. She won gold at the 2011 AIBA Women’s Youth & Junior World Boxing Championships held in Antalya. She won bronze at the second India Open International Boxing Tournament held in Guwahati
