In a shocking incident of sex crime and child abuse in a series of similar cases in Uttar Pradesh, a 26-year-old shopkeeper, identified as one Nazim, allegedly raped a five-year-old girl in Bareilly district of Uttar Pradesh. Police said the suspect owns a shop near the girl’s house within the limits of Nawabganj police station in Bareilly.
The little girl’s family would often send her to the shop to buy things they needed. On 15 February, she had reached the shop for candies. He allegedly lured her to a room with the offer of giving her chocolates and raped her.
The girl returned home with bloodstains on her clothes. The sight horrified her family who learnt by prodding her that Nazim had sexually assaulted her.
The girl’s family called up the police helpline and filed a complaint against Nazim, but he fled before the police arrived. He was, however, traced and arrested later.
An offence under Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act has been slapped on him.
