Navjot Singh Sidhu withdraws resignation as Punjab Congress chief

Sidhu said at a press conference he would resume his duties as the chief of Punjab Congress after the appointment of a new advocate general

It seems like a happy ending after all for Indian National Congress (INC) leader Navjot Singh Sidhu and the party. Sidhu today said that he had taken back his resignation as the president of the party’s Punjab unit.

“I have taken back my resignation (as Punjab Congress chief) and I categorically that the day new Advocate General will be appointed and a new panel will come, I will take charge of my office. It was not any personal ego,” Sidhu said, addressing a press conference.

“In 2017, a government fell and another was formed on two issues. Four and a half years later, a chief minister went and another came on the same two issues,” Sidhu said, adding these were matters close to every Punjabi’s heart.

Sidhu said that he had no issues with Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi. “There is nothing personal. I speak to him for the state. I speak to him for all the good that can be done for the state. I have no differences with Charanjit Channi, not at all. Whatever I do is for Punjab. I stand for Punjab. Punjab is my soul. That’s the goal,” he told reporters.

On 28 September, Sidhu had resigned as the chief of Punjab Congress. He was reportedly upset for the ‘bureaucratic’ setup of the party and disregard for his commands after the cabinet expansion in Punjab.

The cricketer-turned-politician had been appointed as the president of Punjab Congress on 23 July following months of turmoil in the unit. After the tussle in Punjab Congress between Navjot Singh Sidhu and former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh escalated in August, the party had appointed Sidhu as the unit chief apparently against the wishes of the then chief minister.

The captain had in September stepped down as the chief minister and recently tendered his resignation from the primary membership of the that party interim president Sonia Gandhi accepted.

The former chief minister has launched a new party Punjab Lok Congress.

Sangh parivar collected more than Rs 3,000 crores from Hindus as per media reports & gave that amount to a Sarkari Trust & a Sarkari Construction Committee to construct Ram Janma Bhumi Mandir.

Had Central or State Govt sanctioned Govt funds then they would have deserved credit.
