It is a hard and extremely subjective endeavour to name anyone living today or in recent times as a “master strategist,” a task history and its lessons find more willing to undertake. In the modern world, there is less room for the growth of master strategists in the form of legendary historical figures. But Prime Minister Narendra Modi does fit into that legendary category when we see the success of the Bhartiya Janata Party under his charismatic leadership in last four years.

Let’s begin with Karnataka where campaigning ended on Thursday. But the master craftsman was still at work. In a world where PM Modi is followed by media at every place, his temple visits are being beamed Live by news channels and it will definitely create a positive wave for the BJP in a State where Mutt politics dominate. PM Modi arrived in Kathmandu on Friday after a brief halt in Janakpur where he offered prayers at the famed 20th century Janaki temple. Modi also inaugurated a direct bus service between Janakpur and Ayodhya. Prime Minister Modi offered prayers at the Muktinath and Pashupatinath temples, on the second day of his visit to Nepal on Saturday. These symbolic gestures make opposition speechless and also create a silent wave in your cultivated constituencies.

As of May 2018, the BJP holds a majority of Legislative Assembly in 13 states – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Manipur, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. In 2 states – Goa and Maharashtra BJP shares power as Senior Partner (Chief Ministers of BJP) with other political parties of NDA coalition.

In 5 other states, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya, Nagaland and Sikkim. It shares power as Junior Partner with other political parties of the NDA coalition. This saffron surge in different parts of India is definitely the outcome of master strategy built around the charismatic Narendra Modi. Amit Shah has definitely been the trusted lieutenant to implement his moves on the larger political chess board.

The Karnataka Assembly polls have seen a huge turnout at almost 70% which means anti-incumbency is definitely at work and the present ruling party INC may lose. This will be really bad news for Congress as this is last big State in its kitty.

In winning Gujarat and Himachal Pradesh elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had once again proved a master strategist. Before the elections, there was a lot of imaginative speculation. After the elections, there were many post-mortems. Ad hoc theories were offered to fit specific results. But there is no denying one straightforward fact- PM Modi is an unprecedented phenomenon in the annals of popular politics. Modi has weathered every criticism. He has taken every risk and put himself on the line. He has defied every prediction and written his own script of popular acclamation. No conventional wisdom of politics applies to him.

Though the seat tally in Gujarat was much below the expectation of the BJP, the election results amply proved that the party under the charismatic leadership of Modi has firmly established itself as the most distinguished political party of modern India. Indeed, the election results consolidate the BJP’s dominance.
This is made more robust by its social dominance – its social base now has an unprecedented depth and breadth. It has negated every logic of caste arithmetic to win over substantial numbers of OBC and Dalits in addition to upper castes. The unacknowledged social story in the BJP’s rise is its transformation of rules of caste politics and aligning them to a larger narrative.
The BJP is gaining victory after victory in elections because of the exceptional faith Indian voters appear to have in PM Modi and their displeasure to the abject failure of imagination on the part of his combined opposition.
Every time a new electoral defeat happens, desperate opposition leaders and their proteges say exactly the same thing they have been saying since the Modi era began. They announce that they have to ‘come together’ by 2019 to defeat the ‘forces of communalism, fascism and Hindutva’. Can they think of nothing newer than this dated war cry?
Indeed, BJP’s dominance is rising steadily. This is without any dynasty or family control – only by sheer hard work, good governance, profound organizational presence and a selfless leadership of a man of destiny, Narendra Modi, who has the vision to make India truly a great country.
