Muslims of Bhopal extend to Pragya Thakur warm welcome

Answering a question from a journalist, she said Muslims supported her too and that 'the conspirators will not succeed'

Bhopal: Muslims in large numbers received BJP candidate Sadhvi Pragya Thakur from Bhopal with a warm welcome during her roadshow in the capital of Madhya Pradesh. An overtly pleased Sadhvi Pragya said this was proof of unity in the nation.

“The people of the Islamic community in Bhopal believe if Pragya becomes the MP from Bhopal, then Bhopal will be developed,” the BJP candidate, who is facing a lot of flak from leftists due to the case against her for the Malegaon bombing, said.

Muslims are with us, says Sadhvi Pragya

Two days ago, Sadhvi Pragya had made a statement about Muslims. Answering a question by a journalist, she said she enjoyed Muslim support too and that “the conspirators will not succeed”.

Sadhvi Pragya Thakur insists she was not involved in the Malegaon blasts and that she was framed.

The BJP has instructed local leaders of Bhopal to come out in large numbers in support of Sadhvi Pragya. She said, “I have got a formal membership of the BJP today, I will contest the election and will also win.”

Was this Uma Bharati’s taunt?

On the same day, Union minister Uma Bharti reached Katni of Madhya Pradesh. A journalist asked her whether Sadhvi Pragya was going to replace her in Madhya Pradesh politics. Uma Bharti said that the sadhvi was a “mahaan sant” (great saint).

“Do not compare her with me. I am a very simple idiot,” Uma Bharti said.

Digvijaya quips about Sadhvi’s ‘curse’

Sadhvi Pragya Thakur had recently courted controversy by saying her curse following torture in Maharashtra ATS custody resulted in the killing of officer Hemant Karkare. On Sunday, some journalists sought the reaction to the statement from Congress candidate from Bhopal and Sadhvi’s rival Digvijaya Singh. Singh said, “The government would not have needed surgical strikes if Sadhvi had cursed Masood Azhar, instead.”

The BJP had distanced itself from the “curse” comment while Sadhvi backtracked from it too subsequent to making the statement.

How Sadhvi made it

On 17 April, the BJP announced that firebrand activist Sadhvi Pragya will challenge veteran Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in the crucial Bhopal seat.

The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) played an important role in building a consensus on the name of Sadhvi Pragya. For this, the Sangh first addressed all the leaders at the State level.

The name of Shivraj Singh Chauhan, Uma Bharti, Narendra Singh Tomar, Alok Sharma and VD Sharma were considered for the Bhopal seat too.

The Bhopal Lok Sabha seat is going to vote on 12 May. The current MP from this seat is BJP’s Alok Sanjar.
