The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on 8 November arrested Shabana Saeed, the wife of film producer Firoz A Nadiadwala. She was arrested from her residence.
Based on some tip-off started conducting raids at five locations in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai on 8 November night, the NCB arrested four drug peddlers. Based on the information NCB while interrogating one of these alleged drug peddlers, the agency conducted a search operation at Firoz Nadiadwala’s house on this morning.
The NCB, while conducting searches, seized 10 g ganja (cannabis) from Nadiadwala’s residence. In these raids in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, NCB seized 727.1 g of ganja, 74.1 g charas and 95.1 g MD and Rs 3.5 lakh. Total five persons including Shabana Saeed are arrested.
Shabana Saeed is booked under Section 8C of NDPS Act (produce, manufacture, possess, sell, purchase, transport, warehouse, use, consume, import, export any kind of psychotropic substances), Section 20B of NDPS Act (produces, manufactures, possesses, sells, purchases, transports, imports inter-state, exports inter-state or uses cannabis) and Section 27 of NDPS Act (Punishment for the consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance).
Shabana and other accused will be produced in the court on 9 November. As per Mumbai NCB, film producer Firoz Nadiadwala was summoned but he hasn’t joined the investigation yet.
It was in August 2020, NCB after arresting some drug peddlers claimed that those drug peddlers were supplying drugs to several Bollywood personalities and started its drive to crack the suspected Bollywood drug cartel. Before this, NCB arrested the brother of actor Arjun Rampal’s girlfriend.
On the basis of a tip-off, the NCB arrested Wahid Abdul Kadir Shaikh alias Sultan Mirza, who revealed Shabana’s name while being questioned. An NCB team then reached her home in Juhu and conducted a search in the presence of two independent witnesses. 10 grams of ganja (marijuana) were recovered. Her statement was recorded, following which she was arrested.
The three others arrested are allegedly drug suppliers and their questioning is underway. “The operation is still going on; hence the names of the other three suppliers cannot be revealed at this stage. We have seized commercial quantities of drugs from their possession,” Sameer Wankhede said.
Firoz is a prominent producer in Bollywood and has produced several films including Welcome, Welcome Back, Phir Hera Pheri, Aan: Men At Work, Awara Paagal Deewana, Ghar Ho To Aisa and others.
NCB raids actor Arjun Rampal’s house in Mumbai
In another major development in a drug-related case, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) conducted a raid at the residence of actor Arjun Rampal in Mumbai. The model-turned actor’s house was raided a day after the brother of actor’s girlfriend Gabriella Demetriades was arrested.
The central drug law enforcement agency arrested the South African national after it came to light that he was in touch with the drug peddlers arrested in the drugs case pertaining to Sushant Singh Rajput death case.
Earlier, the NCB had summoned Bollywood actresses Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, and Shraddha Kapoor in connection with the case.
The central drug law enforcement agency had initiated a probe into the drugs case in connection with Sushant death case after Enforcement Directorate, which is probing the alleged money laundering case in the sensational death case, retrieved some WhatsApp chats of some people associated with Bollywood which hinted at using of drugs.
The central probe agency had arrested former Dharma Productions executive producer Kshitij Ravi Prasad in connection with the drug case.
Earlier, the NCB had arrested Rhea Chakraborty, her brother Showik, Sushant’s house manager Samuel Miranda, personal staff Dipesh Sawant and several others in connection with the drugs case. While Rhea, the main accused in SSR death case, is out on bail, her brother and the above-mentioned people are still in judicial custody.
Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead on 14 June at his Bandra flat.
