Upset with her party drawing a blank in the Delhi assembly election, Sharmistha Mukherjee, president of the Pradesh Mahila Congress, has questioned the statement of P who had described the victory of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as an encouraging result for the opposition.

Mukherjee objected, saying the INC should have done the job of defeating the BJP. She said if the INC had outsourced the job of beating the BJP to regional parties, the Pradesh Congress Committees (PCC) should close their shop.

The Indian National Congress (INC), which did not get a single seat once again in the Delhi Assembly election, is going through a phase of introspection, with several of its politicians questioning the way the party works in the capital. Reacting to the election result, senior INC leader Jyotiraditya Scindia said that the party would have to change.

Scindia said, “It is very disappointing for our party. There is an emergency need for a new ideology and a new methodology. The country has changed; so we also have to think in a new way and contact the people of the country.”

Before him, former Haryana Chief Minister and senior INC leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda had questioned the leadership of the party’s official in charge of Delhi PC Chacko in the assembly election campaign.

After the bitter defeat of the INC in the Delhi Assembly elections, the infighting within the party is coming to the fore.

On Tuesday, state president Subhash Chopra had resigned from his post, taking moral responsibility for the defeat. Chacko on Wednesday afternoon resigned from his too.

INC’s Kapil Sibal had said before this that the INC lacked a face to project in Delhi. “This is an internal issue of the party. We will look into it and resolve it as soon as possible,” he had said. The former union minister further said on the statement of chief Sharad Pawar that Delhi has given a tremendous blow to BJP and their defeat will not stop now.
